Rotary evaporators (Rotovaps )are used to evaporate a solution to create a crystals. The solution is placed in the round flask that is on an angle. The flask rotates in a heated fluid. The rotation allows you to creat a granular crystal instead of a solid block you would create if you just heated a solution at rest. you will find these under vacuum often used to create crystals for pharmaceuticals that are heat sensitive and would decomposed at temperatures needed to evaporate the solution at normal pressures.

The main parts of a rotary evaporator

Distillation Glassware: vertical and diagonal glassware units for standard distillation are required with RV 8 FLEX and RV 10 FLEX Rotary Evaporators
Condensers: vertical condensers, vertical-intensive condensers with manifold (option for cut-off valve) and dry ice condensers efficiently feed solvent via the PTFE inlet tube
Evaporation Flasks: NS 24/40 joint flasks are available in seven volume capacities
Receiving Flasks: KS 35/20 joint flasks in six volume capacities are available in standard or coated shatterproof units
Powder Flasks: NS 24/40 joint flasks in three volume capacities prevent powder build-up on flask wall
Evaporation Cylinders and Foam Break: NS 24/40 joint units in two volume capacities retrieve viscous substances and stops foam from entering receiving flask
Distilling Spiders: NS 24/40 spiders with choice of 6, 12 and 20 distilling sleeves or five flask model in two capacity sizes
Laboratory Equipment Control Software: multi-purpose software measures, controls and regulates up to 64 devices simultaneously via one PC
Heating Bath and Accessories: used for water and oil applications, units optimize bath volume and guarantee fast heating; includes integrated dry-run control
Vacuum Pumps: chemical resistant units are appropriate for a variety of dry, oil-free applications
